We have a few of those digital calipers at work from different brands (nothing big name branded) and they are awful and annoying to use. Constantly flat batteries and inconsistent measurements. Stiff to move, razor sharp edges that cut fingers, sometimes the slide mechanism is getting slightly "stuck", etc.
Personally, I prefer good old vernier calipers. But they must be the old type, with very precise ground surfaces, not the newfangled cheap ones.
And even though I prefer mechanical ones with the vernier, for occasional lathe work, I prefer the digital ones, as they are faster to get an idea where you are. For final precise measurements I use a micrometer then.
