What is the difference between these microscopes?
« on: October 11, 2022, 07:20:58 pm »
I am trying to buy my first microscope.
It seems these are the two most popular heads:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001060004120.html
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000783050252.html
1612168-0
1612174-1
the only difference I can spot are the eyepieces, and Objective: 0.7-4.5X while the other one is 0.8X-5.0X.

Is there any difference? Which one would you recommend?
Also, I will be very thankful if anybody can point me to where I could buy this in Europe instead of China  :-*

Thank you!

One obviously has adjustable interpupillary distance.  Not sure about the other.  A fixed  PD of 62 mm is common and may be OK with you.  But maybe not.  A link to each scope where it is actually described would be more helpful.

The second one also includes a 0.5X lens.  Not sure where it fits, but such a lens is often used for photography to get the field of views equal.

I might want to confirm that with the seller. The second microscope's description lists as optional, all the auxiliary (barlow) lenses.

Thank you both!

My question goes mostly towards the head and not on the publication itself.
Those are the heads that you can find everywhere, and I cannot find the differences (if any)

Thanks!

Thank you for the links.  The first one has both adjustable diopter for each eyepiece and adjustable interpupillary distance.  The second one does not mention adjustable diopter, nor do the pictures seem to show it.  That could be an important difference if your eyes are not equal.

As for the 20mm v. 22 mm field, I don't see that as a very significant difference.  They are both wide field.  Lens quality will make a bigger difference.  Can you check reviews?  Neither description actually describes image quality.

In my experience, the only way to decide between good microscopes is to test them out.

barlow lens, used to increase working distance (but losing 1/2 magnification)
