Unknown thermocouple any idea what it is?
« on: November 29, 2019, 05:47:39 am »
I recently purchased a Fluke 52 Digital Thermometer with a hidden fault and ended up with this plus a wire type thermocouple in the box.

Anyone seen these before or know what brand/model it is? I assume the cover is to either protect from the elements or for some type of ambient measurement. Seems to work fine and it detects as k type.

Hi Shock,

It is for measuring the temperature of a surface. You use it without the cover and press the probe onto the surface until the standoffs hit the surface.

It is K type, identified by the yellow plug. You need a cable made with K type wire and K type plug and socket. This keeps all the metals the same in the cable.

Oh interesting, it seemed fairly accurate in free air with the cover on, I assumed it was to slowly detect ambient air temp in the capsule. You are right it does need an extension cable, it's inflexible using it straight in the socket as well, too easy to break.

Any idea what these are actually called? Trying to find a picture or some info on them.
