Help finding the right Metcal parts
« on: March 09, 2020, 05:17:00 pm »
I recently purchased a used PS2E-01 Metcal soldering station with the associated hand piece. However, it did not come with a stand for the handpiece so I am trying to find one. We have these units at work, but after looking at one, I was unable to find any part number stamped on the stand or on the handpiece.

What is the part number for the handpiece that comes with the PS2E stations and what is the part number for the hand piece holder?

I have attached photos of the unit I have.

Does the "auto-sleep" feature work with the PS2E-01 station?

Yes, the WS1 has magnets in the stand to saturate the tip, and this works independently of the station used. https://www.eevblog.com/forum/chat/metcal-autosleep-stands-how-do-they-work/

Some of the newer stations (starting from at least the MX-500P, but maybe older stations also?) also have a separate, time-based shutoff that completely powers off the tip if no load changes are detected after a fixed amount of time, and need you to power the station off and back on to reset.

I have both of the stands. For some reason, my RM3E handpiece fits very poorly in the WS1 (even though the WS1 is supposed to fit it). On the other hand, the older stand lacks the sleep magnets.
