I recently upgraded my 3 set of Soldering/Desolding tools..
First a plug in, then a Weller adj, then a circuit specialties dual solder/desolder which died, then a mcm unit.. loved them all, but figured i would since upgrade.. Someone gave me a ikon fx1? soldering station and got spoiled over the fact it heated up super fast & had an idle timer.
I ended up buying the FM-203 and FM-2024 Unit , and various tips for it, i would have to say, hands down this is a very nice setup, works very well, i like the fact you can pop off the tips, and change to a different sides very quickly, and effortlessly, the setup has very good temperature stability and I am very pleased with the setup. I am not sure i can ever go back to another unit. I have used it to do SMT work, and though hole work without issue., large tip size doesn't have a problem melting large solder pads for desoldering, i was able to also remove DIP-40 packaged from a Dual layer board very easy ( instead of clipping the legs and pulling a leg out at a time )
Caveats.. The FM-2024 Station require pressurized air to function, it does not have a "Vacuum" pump integrated into it, i am currently using a small 2 stage air brush compressor with a small reservoir can, works great!
I also have a FX-901 handheld Soldering iron that runs on 4 AA batteries, has a good weight, but have not given it a test yet, i will post after i have..
any questions feel free to ask, and i will give my best opinion/answer
