Nantero NRAM
« on: June 19, 2015, 09:09:02 pm »
http://nantero.com/

Carbon nano-tube based memory tech.  Is it legit?  Looks like it.

"Nantero’s NRAM is as fast as and denser than DRAM, nonvolatile like flash, has essentially zero power consumption in standby mode and 160x lower write energy per bit than flash, and is highly resistant to environmental forces (heat even up to 300 degrees C, cold, magnetism, radiation, vibration). NRAM is compatible with existing CMOS fabs without needing any new tools or processes, and it is scalable even to below 5nm. Given that it requires a small number of process steps and only one mask layer, NRAM can be fabricated at low cost, and is compatible with both 3D multilayer architectures and MLC operation. This makes NRAM the ideal solution for the next generation of memory technology for both standalone and embedded applications."

Quote from Wikipedia: "Nano-RAM is a proprietary computer memory technology from the company Nantero."

I smell another RAMBUS exploding on the stage and then quietly vanishing to live a life in the shadows of the next iteration of a free RAM-Standard.
But I'd love to be wrong. This technology looks really interesting, even though Nantero would basically have a monopoly on it for two decades.

They seem to position themselves like ARM. Just sell the licence to the manufacturers.

they dont sell any licenses, because they dont have a product :)) what they have is an idea and maybe some small prototypes. There was a pr release a month? ago about them starting to try to build something in real fabs.
Who logs in to gdm? Not I, said the duck.

They state that this is implemented in 7 fabs, have done something for military and their chips have been in space.

Also it cures cancer, and one chip can feed an entire starving village.

Hah .. was just reading about this. I ended up on their site, what seems odd to me is that almost all articles that they have listed on their site are from June 2'nd 2015. All in the same day except probably one or two, way too synchronized

If is true then is great ... but usually what is too good to be true ... you know how it ends up :) .

It's the same date as their latest press release. Nothing suspicious about that, most news you read is copied from press releases.
