Any one with a fluke 289 Help
« on: January 02, 2012, 06:51:00 am »
Hi
I'm not sure this is the right place to post this..
I just purchased a used fluke 289 and when i try to install its firmware (same as current one) I get an error. After the software finds the device in USB (COM9) and recognizes as a fluke 289, I get this error: "The circuit board in the meter is incompatible with this update."

Is it windows 7 64bit causing the problem or is it because I'm trying to reflash the same firmware it already has (if so why not give me that specific error instead of incompatible circuit board) or is there a fluke in my fluke?

first of all, why are you flashing with existing firmware?

I think that is the problem, same firmware, but odd error though.

If you just bought a 289 - and it is a new unit - you will have firmware 1.12, which is actually newer than the firmware update available on the Fluke site (1.10 or 1.11, don't remember exactly).

In other words, no need to downgrade your DMM, and since 1.12 was released because of an engineering change (hence the 'not compatible board) and does not contain anything on top of 1.11, you really don't need to do anything!

Good answer elafargue.

OP didn't give much information. Like from what version he was trying to upgrade.  Version 1.2 isn't available for download for the reason elafargue explained.

Maybe this will help.  My newest 289 was made 1/24/11
Board ID 3
Arm bootloader V2_0_74-build june 25 2010
firmware ver 1.12/v0.88

Possibly v1.2 is for board 3 and above.

Fluke is sometimes vague about firmware upgrades.  I have especially noticed this on scopemeters.
