Small USB Power Banks
« on: June 24, 2020, 02:08:14 am »
I asked this on Twitter but no joy.
Is there a quality brand power bank with USB-C PD and is less than 10,000mAh?
There is this one graphene one:
https://elecjet.com/products/apollo-traveller-graphene-usb-c-pd-power-bank-5000mah
But it's bigger than my 10,000mAh one and only 20g lighter.
My goal is to sacrifice capacity for size and weight.

My guess small banks cannot provide enough current to be useful for USB-PD.  Still some exist.

That's QC, not PD.

Not sure if it is trusted brand

No smaller than 10,000mAh I have.

Not really branded

Now were're talking, thanks.

I suspect USB PD doesn't make much sense on small powerbanks. With 5V and 2 Amps you're already pulling 10 Watts. At 10 Ah with one cell you only have 30 usable Wh's.
If you go up to USB PD profile 2 with 18 Watts or profile 3 with 35 Watts that's on a 5 Ah bank such a big power drain that I don't think there is much usable capacity left due to all the losses and internal resistance.

Yeah (as posted on twitter), seem to have been a couple but they have gone the way of the dodo.

https://xcentz.com/product/xcentz-5000mah-smallest-and-lightest-portable-charger/

https://switchchargers.com/novoo-powercube-mini-5000-review/

Guess they have fallen foul of the larger numbers the better mentality.

Even thinking outside the box, to flashlights/headlamps (notably Acebeam UC35, and H30) that provide powerbank functionality with a type C, none support PD.
