U1173 Connectivity Cable

My once perfectly working U1173 cable for DMM U1273AX stopped being recognized by Windows because prolific chip is too old... I was not about to buy a new comm cable for 50 bucks on eBay... I bought instead a DSD TECH SH-U06A USB to TTL Serial Uart Adapter with PL2303GC Chip on amazon for 11 bucks, desoldered the chip and swapped it with the old one in U1173 - it now works perfectly. In case anyone else has the same problem and is willing to go through soldering trouble.

I do not know if this will work for all serial port adapters - but it did for this one!

Here are the pics.
If anyone has a source of reputable prolific chips, let me know. I bought a full USB Comm device since I knew they will have a legit chip. I much rather get chips as they are cheaper plus no left over clutter.

you can find old versions of prolific drivers online that still works with pl2303hxa.
