My wife is a dentist, and relies upon a bright uniform headlamp to look into people's mouths. I've found that the technology related to surgical/medical/dental headlamps - despite being extremely mission critical, and outrageously expensive (high profit margin) is not very "state of the art", or even well designed. I learned this by attending a dental tradeshow and speaking with the reps, and owners of these headlamp companies. There are a number of companies - and SurgiTel is actually one of the best - but still has many issues.
My wife has a SurgiTel Micro LED Headlamp. This thing has crapped out several times - most often because the lack of adequate strain relief on the 3.5mm phono jack used for connection to the power supply. (I had applied an encapsulation of hot glue - to provide some strain relief - but have remove it all for diagnostics) Additionally the power supply has also gone bad, and now it appears that the LED has simply burnt out. (Not a great deal of heatsinking is incorporated into their design.)
Does anyone know this type of LED?
I'd like to simply reverse engineer the whole thing and build a more robust design. Maybe someone here can help.
Do you have a good LED dimmer schematic or recommendations?
Thanks
