Keypad replacement
« on: October 28, 2024, 02:28:03 pm »
Got a keypad (mentioned elsewhere) with domed buttons. An official replacement is both unobtanium and expensive, so I am looking at a DIY solution.

What I have in mind is a flex PCB, which JLCPCB would do for next to nothing (unless I add a stiffener, and then it gets uncheap. But what about the buttons? Perhaps a tactile switch would suit, but there are so many it is hard to know what to look for or which might be appropriate.

Any suggestions?

Your holiness,

Replacement cross-shaped domed switches are available on aliexpress:

Thanks, but the switches themselves are fine - it's the tracking that is borked. With a replacement tracking layer, I'm not sure those switches are the right solution (specifically, difficulty in mounting on a flex PCB).
