Tektronix 2235 upgrades
« on: February 23, 2020, 08:09:14 pm »
Hi,

I have purchased a Tektronix 2235, and am wondering about the 050-2242-03 upgrade. According to the Tektronix document, the upgrade is for Tek 2235 Serial numbers B010100 - B041675. However, all B* serial numbers are USA made scopes. My oscilloscope starts with a 2, (203790), which means it was made by Tektronix UK.

Will this upgrade be appropriate for my scope?

Datasheet here: http://hakanh.com/dl/docs/kitinstructions/050-2242-03.pdf

I would not touch it unless it's broken. The 223x power supplies are a complete sod from end to end.  I have a thread here on one which decided to explode: https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/tektronix-2235-repair-thread/ .

And I would second that.

If you really want to get your hands dirty, I have the info for this upgrade in my crappy video on the restoration of my 2235.

Where does all this test equipment keep coming from?!?

Thanks for the great video.   I have an old 2230 that I need to repair, when I get around to it, hopefully there are some similarities.   Unfortunately it is more of a not working variety so may require more work than you had here.

Thanks! I have now tested the oscilloscope more, and I think everything works, except for the intensity control for the B channel, which does not do anything. Turning the main intensity control seems to affect both channels.
