GIGABYTE GTX 1070 ITX - Missing component after damage
« on: November 15, 2021, 03:36:15 pm »
Hello Everybody,

Today I did find in my brother's stuff, an obviously dead GIGABYTE GTX 1070 as you can on the pictures, and when I see the price and the difficulty to get a graphic card, I would like to fix it and used it in a new desktop computer.

1323791-01323797-1

I found on other pictures the reference of the missing component but I dont have the value:

- C43
- C1080
- C1064

- Fuse F4, I think a 10a 1206 could be good.

Thank you very much for your help.

The fuse is 1206 10A fast acting type. However this PCB was tampered with and gold fingers are covered with solder, which is very bad. Even after you clean them with solder wick, they may develop a bad contact with a socket during use. I suspect that the fuse was removed because a ceramic capacitor became bad and the power rail was shorted, the same as here https://www.eevblog.com/forum/repair/gigabyte-gtx-1070-mini-no-fan-spin-no-video-dead-cap-found/. So check if the rail is shorted to GND first (measure the top contact of the fuse to GND). I don't know the exact capacitance of those 3 missing capacitors, but the exact value is not critical, they are just decoupling caps. Something like 0805 10uF for larger ones and 0402 1uF for a smaller one rated for at least 16V will work just fine.

Thank you very much for your quick reply.

I will try to perform a good cleaning and order right the component. I will let you know the result.
The rail will be checked.

Thank you again
