Sony CCD-FX300E Video-8 camcorder - no power on CAMERA setting
« on: November 17, 2020, 03:13:22 am »
I'm trying to figure out if this one's worth repairing...

I've got a Sony CCD-FX300E Video-8 Handycam on the bench at the moment. Failure mode is it works fine in playback mode (albeit with poor video quality and occasional loss of sync). Switch to Camera and the camera begins to start up, then quickly shuts down.

Has anyone worked on Handycams of this vintage (circa 1994)?
Are there any common trouble spots?

Cheers
Phil.

Exactly. I have in a similar Sony model in storage (can't recall, maybe the same model), and it has all SMD electrolytics leaking all over the PCB.

I suspected as much.

In that case I figure this one will end up on the scrap pile. Price for one refurbished and working is only £20, the capacitors and time spent will probably be far more than that. The smarter money's in grabbing a Digital8 deck, digitising all the tapes and re-selling the D8 camera.

Cheers
