Siglent SDS1104x-e stuck at boot routine (SOLVED)
« on: March 22, 2022, 08:48:51 pm »
Hello everyone.
I own a Siglent SDS1104x-e which has been working ok for 3 years, bought it new.
Today, suddenly, it stopped working. It's stuck at the booting routine, here's what it does:
- Fan turns on
- Power button turns on
- Internal relay turning on and off
- screen shows nothing
- Rest of the buttons lights on

Already solved, here's the solution:

The firmware was never updated. So this is most probably an old firmware bug.

I had to start the scope with both channel 1 and channel 2 probes connected to the cal pin. This way for some reason started.
After that , updated to the newest firmware available and problem solved.

If any of you guys is thinking on buying a siglent scope, update the firmware as soon as new ver. are available

Yes partially older FW is to blame however pressing Math, Math, Math fast and continuously at boot should get you past a boot freeze in these models.

For the latest FW update there is also an OSV2 update that enables the new NTP feature.
https://int.siglent.com/upload_file/zip/firmware/Oscilloscope/SDS1xx4X-E_V6.1.37R8_EN.zip
https://int.siglent.com/upload_file/zip/firmware/Oscilloscope/SDS1xx4X-E_OSV2_EN.zip

The OS update must be installed from the root of a USB stick and auto installs at boot.
The order of install doesn't matter.
Remember to delete the OS from the USB stick or it will run at each boot.

Where did you get the idea to do that?
A 3.5 digit 4.5 digit 5 digit 5.5 digit 6.5 digit 7.5 digit DMM is good enough for most people.

It thought that maybe internal calibration was failing, that's why I tried it. Not sure of why it did worked

Sometimes Math doesn't work first time and it normally pays to try it a few times as it's the normal fix for a boot freeze however Siglent do have a USB recovery package for theses scopes when Math doesn't work.

I have the same issue here. The USB recovery package - is it downloadable directly, or do we have to contact Siglent? I have tried a blank USB stick with the firmware on it, but it's still stuck at the 'Siglent' boot image, no matter what I try...

Welcome to the forum.

Have you used the Math, Math, Math button procedure when booting the DSO ?
We try this several times and quickly before trying further recovery methods.

Thanks for the reply!

Yeah - I've tried it numerous times, with no luck. It's a complete PITA, as I have a number of repairs piling up. Short of buying a new scope, is there anything else I can try?
