UE boom wireless speaker wont charge(or atleast says it doesn't)

I have a UE boom speaker and when I plug it the Bluetooth module gets hot to the touch, it draws .75 amps and then slowly goes down to .35 ish. when I charge the battery separately and put it back in it says battery critically low. is it possible there is a short on the usb interface causing the chip to get full voltage instead of a signal or would it be something else... Thanks
