Author Topic: DC power supply shipping damage, help me source the right 10k pot!  (Read 1759 times)

Hiya, new member here.  I'm an amateur hobbyist inspired by EEVBlog youtube videos!

I got a good deal on a GW Instek 0-30V dual tracking power supply... except that it was poorly packed and was damaged in transit.  I took it apart and found only minor damage, mostly broken plastic bits.  However, the PCB that holds the output terminals was cracked and has a broken trace.  I fixed the trace with a jumper wire, and now the slave channel works!  Now the other problem that I was able to find is a broken 10k pot on the master channel. 

The pot says "682F 10KB2" and it looks like a pretty standard item.  However, I wasn't able to find an exact match searching Google and eBay for "682F 10KB2".  I am going to venture a guess that this is a linear pot, but I am not sure what the "B2" or "682F" mean. 

I measured the shaft from the bottom of the threaded portion to the tip: 15.2mm.  Can someone help me source a suitable replacement pot please?

Honestly it looks like one of the dime-a-dozen-from-china standard pots you can buy on eBay and the like. I've used them in many projects.

seems like every one of those supplies has that issue. The whole pcb is flopping around by the leads of the pots. That and the jacks push right against the backside of the pcb, delaminating the traces lol

also, the part you showed him has the shaft position upside down.. 987-1308-ND, hehehe it's makes no difference really, same price.

Yep, the nuts holding that PCB to the front panel are really the only thing holding it in place!

As for "shaft position upside down", what do you mean?  What's the difference between 987-1301 and 1308, and how can you tell?  Aside from a slightly different photo for each on DigiKey, all the details available on their respective product pages are identical.  I bought a 987-1301 and it worked fine.

The only difference is the position (angle) of the slot in the splined shaft, or the position of the flat on the version with a D shaped shaft.  With the splined shaft it doesn't make any difference for most applications since the majority of knob designs don't use the slot for indexing.  Obviously more important with the D shaped shaft for many knob designs.
