Fluke 289 LCD contrast
« on: January 21, 2023, 10:43:29 am »
It appears that all Fluke 289 manufactured after April 2022 come with an issue with the LCD contrast which requires setting it to max brightness to get a clearer display, otherwise the contrast is low and the whole LCD is very dark. I wanted to check if this is true by getting feedback here from other users, and also check if anybody knows how to shift the contrast to the lighter side so that the screen is readable in the middle of the range.

Here is some context. I sent my Fluke 289 for service in 2017 due to the super capacitor issue. They replaced the super capacitor under warranty, and it failed again in 2022. I sent it in for service and this second time they replaced the main board which uses a battery instead of a super capacitor. When I got it back I noticed the screen being very dark and needing to jack up the brightness to make it look like it used to. So I sent it in again, and this time they sent me a new unit, which still has the contrast issue. The Fluke technician acknowledged in the service notes the problem with the contrast of all units after April 2022, further stating that their engineering department  has not yet provided any solution.

Following up on my previous post, the LCD contrast issue was solved by Fluke service under warranty, and it required swapping components in the PCA. Hopefully this will be fixed from the factory in future board revisions.
