HP53181A Power Supply Schematic
« on: December 06, 2023, 08:16:08 am »
Have found a completely destroyed Resistor R251 and leaking Capacitor (although readable) on the power supply for the above meter, unfortunately the available manuals I have found do not include the power supply, any leads for such would be appreciated. Thanks, Alan.

Thanks gamalot, off to a good start. While the meter worked it was not stable.

Thanks to gamalot info, got the resistor replaced as well as some other components in its the failed area and all works, but the output rail voltages appear to vary from nominal by around +/- 0.4 volts, without a manual for the power supply, unsure if this is acceptable.
Also any idea if what VR501 controls. Thanks.

Somebody did draw a schematic a long time ago (not me)

Should be helpfull with these power supply's, which besides from leaking capacitors has all other kind of faults, and worn out fans

Fix it and convert it to a hard power switch (if you dont have the internally OCXO)

Thanks DeepLink, much appreciated and also the original artist of the drawing.
Yes as I'm finding out, this must have been from the era when HP was floundering. Yes, fan has been repaired and looks like some capacitors by a previous owner/s. I will keep working on it. Thanks.
