HP iPAQ H5450 & H5550 dead (battery flat) - any ideas?
« on: September 03, 2014, 06:58:58 pm »
Hello folks :)

I have just procured two lovely condition HP iPAQ PDAs, with a small issue on each. The batteries are Li-Po and are *totally flat* - I assume they were in storage for years, probably. Anyway, I have:

~ Put them on charge on the cradle, direct 5VDC, 2A connection as per specs.

~ Taken one apart, measured the plug-in backup battery which reads 0.6V (I'm sure these batts are rechargeable, but I didn't jump start it, just in case).

~ Disconnected the backup battery, put the main battery in.

~ "Jump started" the main Li-Po battery by applying 5VDC (0.8A) to the battery terminals for 15 secs.

At some random point during today, the H5550 booted up to the digitiser calibration setup screen, but shortly died again right before I could tap the final crosshair (there are 5 - one centre, four corners). This happened 4 more times, then since then, nothing.

If anyone with some iPAQ experience could give me some tips as regards this frustrating issue, that would be much appreciated. I have also done all the recommended hard/soft resets HP say to carry out, but to no avail.

thank you all :)

start by giving it proper power
from lab  supply for example
Who logs in to gdm? Not I, said the duck.
My fireplace is on fire, but in all the wrong places.

I have no lab supply. This shouldn't need that - I have LOTS of proper 5VDC PSUs, and a lab supply isn't going to magically make it work. I am not buying a lab supply for a purchase that cost me £10 :)

thanks for your reply anyway :)

I am pretty sure that he meant power it up from a suitable power supply. Ie a adjustable power supply that most of us have on our benches. If u have a walwart or a cell phone charger with enough beef that should work.

Of course the battery is flat, what shape did you expect it to be?  :-DD
