Shrouded/touch protected bnc manhunt for Tektronix tps2012
« on: September 14, 2022, 10:38:40 pm »
I've managed to find the most proprietary strangest looking bnc in the world that in now need 3 of. I'm looking for replacements for the bnc connectors seen below. They are shrouded and/or touch protected for an isolated tektronix tps2012 100MHz scope im repairing. Any help in finding these would be very appreciated.

I have a TPS2012, and apart from dark tarnish on the BNC sockets they haven't so far caused me grief - as an aside, why do they need replacing?

BTW, if ever you come across any TEK service/schematic I'd appreciate a copy as I couldn't locate anything a few years ag when I had an intermittent internal fault.

Ciao, Tim

I have a second tps2012 which came without bncs. They are not tarnished they are black plastic as a sort of anti touch mechanism since these scopes are designed to be used with potentially have common mode voltages

I need the entire bnc not just the plastic shell. I may need to find a similar enough panel mount replacement and just solder the bnc down

Oops. This is bad.
BNC socket is broken?
I guess it is not possible for you to buy a same BNC socket. I guess there is only one possibility.
You can buy a second-hand defective device and remove the BNC socket from it and plug it into this device.

Have you tried contacting Tektronix directly? It might not be cheap to buy replacement parts from them, but surely it beats buying a parts donor scope.
<fellbuendel> it's arduino, you're not supposed to know anything about what you're doing
<fellbuendel> if you knew, you wouldn't be using it

Yeah the sockets arent even broken on one of the two units i got (one was working fully) the other had the sockets desoldered so it probably was a donor unit.

At this rate ill just get any old panel mount connector to get it to work. Since its not going back out into industry it doesnt need to have touch protected jacks. But if i can find the staubli ones in stock or cheap ill get them

I wouldn't want to replace them with uninsulated connectors, since the shell is not connected to safety ground. Clipping the probe reference lead to the wrong thing could easily give you a nasty shock if your fingers happen to brush the connector shell when adjusting the scope.

There are cheap fully insulated BNC connectors on eBay. I can't comment on the quality, but I imagine it will be cheaper than Staubli:

Has anyone tested whether the TPS2000 can use the new version of the TPS2000B series BNC shell?
(The BNC Shell shell used by the two is different from the Tektronix number)
