San Cooler 92 Series 12 VDC 92 mm - pinout
« on: May 12, 2020, 07:52:13 pm »
Need some advice...

I needed a quieter replacement for a San Cooler 92 Series, 12 V, DC, 92 mm.

I stupidly bought a BeQuiet Silent Wings 92, without thinking about it too much, but the pin-out is different. One is GND-Tach-Power, while the other is GND-Power-Tach.

Any idea how do I search for compatible pinouts in mouser or digikey? Didn't expect them to be different.

Or shall I just get a new plug and change the pinout of the BeQuiet?

All fans for PC usage will be the same pinout: GND-Power-Tach (I actually forget which is pin 1, but power is definitely in the middle). Anything else will be pot luck (mostly supplied without a connector).

If it's a typical KK series connector you can just depin it and move them around.

It's for an old oscilloscope and it's GND-Tach-Power.

Yeah, it's a KK series connector. Sorry didn't know the name. Any idea what tools I need to move them around?

A knife suffices. Slide the pin fully forwards, press firmly down on the locking tab and push the pin back, and you should be able to remove it from the housing. Just bend the tab up again with the blade gently and you can reuse it.

Thanks, worked like a charm!

Nope  not all computer fans have the same pinout, 3 pins or 4 pins,  i have proprietary fans  who doesnt respect that "Universal pinout"

Had to take a needle, push the small lock in the connectors and redo the pinout.

All fans sold retail for the PC market will have the same 3 or 4 pin arrangement. There is, in fact, a standard for this.

Until you play in Dell, Hp, Lenovo  ... and other "big Brands"  even if the board is supposed to be standard id and model naming in some case : eatx, atx and others size mobo ...

Thats why i wrote "proprietary"
