IFR 2399
« on: August 26, 2020, 01:13:10 am »
I am looking for a MAINTENANCE manual and/or schematics for the IFR 2399 Spectrum Analyzer. I have the Operations and Programming manuals. I would prefer a PDF. I am tracing down a fault in either the Tracking Generator module (most likely), or possibly a failure in the YIG signal from the RF module feeding the TG. I do not have access to another spec analyzer at this time, especially not above the 3Ghz range. Any help/advice/half-hidden pointing fingers would be appreciated. - tiredtech

Hi

You will look for a long time there are NO schematics available, just an assembly level service manual that is almost useless.   The IFR2399 is a re-badge/factored  LG product from South Korea.

It was repaired on a module exchange basis with all faulty modules going back to LG for repair.

George, thanks for the info. Any chance of getting anything out of LG? I had seen some other, older related posts that suggested the "rebranding" from LG but not much else. When I tried to search under LG and then also LIG NEX1 NS-30, I couldn't get much. Any other thoughts or possible leads for thoughts? Thanks, tiredtech.

Hi George :)
Do you have the full Maintenance manual?
I am particularly interested in calibration because I became the happy owner of the IFR 2399 but it requires calibration. I would like to see if there are differences between 2398 and 2399. From experiments with communication via RS232 and GPIB I see that some tables have more entries than 2398
If you could share the manual it would be very helpful :)
Regards,
P

Hi

To calibrate a 2399 you need the LG produced calibration software Fcal239xa which is no longer available.  There is a separate piece of software called TGDAC for the tracking generator, again not available.

From a press announcement the entire LG Spectrum Analyzer assets were acquired in 2017  by Aeroflex.

thx,
I know about software and have read https://www.eevblog.com/forum/repair/aeroflex-ifr-2398-calibration-repair-help/
Ihave all manuals for 2398
I have converted https://github.com/ColbyBurkett/IFR2398-Backup-Restore for 2399 dump via RS232 and GPIB and as far as I can see, there are some differences in table sizes between 2398 and 2399.
Now I would need some guidance on what is the sequence of commands to perform the calibration. Once I know, writing a script in python won't be too complicated.
If someone have an idea, please share :)
