Hi all,
I have a LeCroy 8254M 2.5GHz oscilloscope that was initially intermittently reluctant to power up. Now it refuses to budge from the starting line... Manufacture date is September 2018, this scope was bought new and it's a workhorse in my lab.
Symptoms: When power cable is plugged in, various internal relays are heard clicking. But pressing the power button doesn't cause any further action like fans spinning ON, bootup etc. This was happening intermittently earlier. Scope has always been kept in a cool, dry lab. Perhaps a little too cold (my lab is part of a cleanroom). One tech guy I spoke to, gave me a story that it could be: the temp sensor thinks it's cool enough already, so doesn't power up the fans, and the PC refuses to boot unless the fans are on. Sounds unlikely. Temp sensor would be on the parts that get hot - the lab only gets down to 22-24C.
I have all the tools to take it apart and poke around inside. But short on time. Am tempted to, given the several other informative threads posted on this forum and the teardown on the sy2k site. But I'd like to check if its something trivial I am missing, and/or get a better picture of what to expect before I break the calibration seal to unscrew.
