U1272A strange measurement results (solved)
« on: January 16, 2023, 11:08:43 am »
Some time ago I purchased a second hand U1272A.

Recently it started showing strange results: large errors on many ranges and on the ohms range with inputs open some 16 Mohms i.l.o. "OL".

This was caused by resistor R34 (in red shrink sleeve) on the main PCB.
R34 is soldered into 2 hollow stand-offs and has a value of approx 1080 ohms.
The side which is connected to the J1 input socket (V, ohms, capacitance and diode test) was loose and could be lifted out without any effort (see attached picture).

Resoldered both sides which solved the problem.

Note on the old topic about the input impedance of the Low Z and OFF positions.
In those positions input J1 is connected to the COM terminal J2 via R40, PTC1 and PTC4.
I measured respectively approx. 280, 832 and 819 ohms (@ approx. 15 degrees C).
