Pulled out a Heathkit IT-1 that I acquired a while ago to assess it's condition. I replaced the decayed power cord with a new molded polarized plug lamp cord, put in a correct 2A fuse, and crossed my fingers and flipped the switch (it seemed to be in pretty good condition, so I skipped the powerstat/dim bulb setup on this one).
All the smoke stayed inside, but the voltmeter only went half scale to about seven eighths scale when the knob was turned from stop to stop.
While I had the unit apart, I looked at the working parts, and the knob rotated a wiper, like a powerstat, across one of the transformer windings.
Next step will be to see if the device's meter corresponds to actual output, but if, as I suspect it will,
does anyone have any thoughts as to what else I might check?
TIA
