What the best way to restore the front panel labels/markings?

hi what i do is i get a sharpie pointy permanent marker and retrace the writing

they come in a really fine tip

look at office works make sure all hand oils are wiped off it will look like new when done i did some of my 1950 hp test gear  :-+

That works very well for embossed legends.

Be glad you don't have white silkscreened legends on plastic.

I've always had good luck with Markal lacquer sticks for engraved panels
