KR-4010 and illuminating fuse (and STK-0040)
« on: December 08, 2020, 01:52:50 pm »
After first fuse swap the thing has been aside for quite some time.
Now, after second swap and stand alone, it's been behind a variac and with 80V it wants 1A, sharply increased after 60V.
Then suddenly current dropped.
Also stayed down with 100V.
But still couldn't behave with full mains.

Is that a usual thing for faulty STK-0040AT?

Is that a possible capacitor reforming situation?
Ripple was minimal.

I presume you mean a Kenwood KR-4010.

The STK packs in question can be checked for shorts between pins 1 and 2, and between pins 8 and 9.

Yes, Kenwood it is and a single channel stereo for now.

Also, bottom is a removable plate and under it a circuit board is rounding the power pack and its pin holes are actually slots.
Those were the days.

Replacement then.

I read that replicas are pretty much a waste of time, if chip can stand the heat you can't stand the distorsion.
Also that some have replaced them with discretes.
If I continue with replicas anyway, some say they are just fine, I can upgrade both channels with STK-0050, the device is 220V and wall is 240V, but should I go to STK-1050?

Small amplifier modules in general are also plenty.
Is that the way?
Authenticity is not a priority but all fine prints seems to be missing.

BTW, now the current faulty power pack has both sides shorted.
So at one point it released both sides and then shorted them again?
