Sony ICF pro 80 need help !
« on: October 07, 2018, 08:04:53 pm »
Hello,

I have bought a "for parts or repair" Sony ICF pro 80 radio from ebay that had no sound at all. Since this is a common problem for those kind of radios due to bad caps i knew what the problem is.
So i replaced all the caps in the radio in total 18 pieces. and i restored the audio but only on FM band... on AM is still dead. Only in mode "narrow" AM have sound but only hissing.

So i request some help from someone that knows how a PLL radio work and where to check or what may not work properly.
I have the service manual... but i don't have a oscilloscope.

P.S. I managed to successful repair another 2x icf pro 80 by replacing the caps... but this one is driving me crazy  |O

Hi Tomy,

I helped a friend some years ago to fix his Pro80 - he had some bad PCB around the audio amp, and some bad coils, the quadrature decoder coil, and one of the FM-band coils.
So I would say I am fairly familiar with that radio.
I would be glad to help you!
Send a PM with your e-mail address, the repair could get long!

Regards, Peter
