Looking for any suggestions as to why, after years of sterling service my Fluke DSP-4000 main unit suddenly just displays some horizontal bands when powered on...it was pworking perfectly when turned off the day before!

I have multiple 4100 units like this, i have checked the whole board and seems nothing wrong. I pulled both U17 & U18 AT29LV040A off the board and read in programmer but both modules are dead, i have new ones but unsure of how the flash should be done, the remote unit firmware is less than 4mbit so i have flashed onto both chips and replaced but remote unit still not booting.

The address lines of the 4mbit eeproms goto the MC68307V so it's likely i guess that the firmware is motorola assembly.

Hi Asis,
I’ve just been searching through form posts looking for firmware and standards files for my DSP-4300.  I know considerable time has passed, but do you still have 1.925 and do you have the Standard 5.17 file?  I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi,

I'm already retired and don't work with these TDRs, but there are some files in the archives on the old PC.
Tell me what you need and give me a link to a file hosting service to which I will try to upload.

Thanks for taking the time to post, we already have those files, what we need is a read of the internal eeproms from a working unit. To restore the bootloader.

It is someone who can give me a firmware or database with some instructions for DSP-4300? I bought another remote for the main, but he arrived with 5.17 standards and older firmware, I found the firmware but database standards it remain at 5.17 and I must have 5.19c.
Or is good to downgrade the standard on main unit from 5.19c to 5.17? With another firmware write to main unit?

Just signed up for EEVBlog Forum so I could say THANK YOU for posting that all over on your Google Drive, pete1zed!

I have a few DSP-100s that had mis-matched firmwares, and so they wouldn't work together. Although you don't have the -100 FW posted, you pointed me in the right direction with the wayback links.

Now some extra info for those struggling with LinkWare 6.2, and the info is probably useful to those that have a DSP-2000:

-Yes, LinkWare 6.2 installs and runs fine on Windows 11.
-Yes, Using a USB to Serial adaptor works fine (as long as it's in a null modem configuration, and correct drivers are installed on Win11).

For my first attempt at upgrading the firmware of the DSP-100, it appeared to be successful, but the DSP-100 wouldn't start up. It just made one beep, then the screen stayed blank. I thought I'd bricked it, but luckily Fluke made it so that even in that state I could just initiate another firmware update from LinkWare. The unit being upgraded must be in the Auto Test position, and even though the screen is blank, it's actually on and ready to accept firmware.

After firmware updates, you will need to do a self-calibration, and that WILL require either another DSP (with display) or a Smart Remote (no display)...Both the DSP and SR must have the same firmware. FYI, the update process for the remote is the same as the DSP: Turn on, connect serial, initiate an update, but instead choose the file beginning with "SR".

Hope the above helps someone, and thanks again pete1zed for your posts and files. I've had this DSP-100 since 1999, and although it isn't useful for qualifying any modern ethernet standard, it still is useful in many other ways. Glad it's a part of my kit!

The internal battery on my DSP-4100 is dead.  Does anyone know the part number for a "drop-in" (solder in) replacement, or where I can get a CR2450 with the same pin configuration?

Hi Zeb

If not too much trouble can you send me the patch cord database  for the the dsp-pci? If you still have it.

Thanks
Tom

I have two broken Fluke DSP4300SR remote units. Unfortunately, I don't know their earlier history. I opened the devices, but can't find any damaged components on the PCB. I replaced the internal CR2450 battery because it was dead, I uploaded the latest firmware via LinkWare (the same version as in the main unit), I gave new NiMh batteries (Cameron Sino), but they still don't work. When turned on, all LEDs light up. LinkWare shows internal error 208:

Boot  1.925 11/06/06 16:01:03 000000 008000
Cal   1.921 11/29/04 16:01:05 008800 01b200
Sdb   5.17  11/06/06 16:01:04 024800 00be00
MainSR1.925 11/06/06 16:01:08 030800 043f00 **** FAIL ****

serial num=0XXXXXXX
hw lev=10
cal date=010610
Analog rev=100
Digit rev=100
Keybd rev=100

Internal Errors:
 208 02/11/00 09:15:19

I'm starting to suspect that the AT29LV040A-20TC microcontroller or Samsung K6X4008T1F-GF70 RAM may be damaged. The parts are no longer produced, but they can still be obtained, but the problem would be to get a memory dump from working unit.

Has anyone encountered such an error, or has access to a service manual to check what this error means?

The original battery is Sanyo CR2450, but Sanyo was purchased by Panasonic, so you can use Panasonic CR2450 or other good quality CR2450 battery.

Hi,
I recently got a DSP-4000 from my school for free, because it was broken and they were moving into a new building. It has the same issue described erlier wit the rolling bars on the screen and is not beeing recognized by the LinkWare software. The remote unit actually behaves the same as the main unit in my case, with it not turning on and it not beeing recognized by the PC.

How hard would it be, to flash new roms for both units with the rom images, and what specific chips do you need for the two units? Is it even worth it to repair the analyzer, or would it be smarter to just sell the analyzer and the accesories as is?
