Hello EEV community! I am currently new to the forum and I am desperately in need of help.
This will be my second time repairing another Walkman but for some reason, I can't figure out on how to open the back plate. I was able to remove the front part. I did, however, remove all the screw...and the only problem is the volume knob. I am guessing the volume knob is removable since the only thing holding the back plate is the knob, but for some reason no matter how hard I pull it just wouldn’t come off. All I can assume there must be a hidden screw in that knob, but I couldn’t even remove the small cap. I put all the screw back on and tried to remove the knob again, but the result is the same. I could use a flat head screwdriver to just yank it off, but I don’t want to damage it without knowing it might have a hidden screw or what’s under it.
I need to open it, so I can clean the corrosion in the battery compartment and add a thin metal plate to the negative side and most likely change the belt, and add a red LED since it’s missing. Hopefully, I could hear the motor running or make a sound, so I know it powers on. If it doesn’t I would I would need everyone advise on how to fix the power issue. I do believe there used to be a thin metal stick that sticks out of the negative side terminal of the battery compartment to make contact to the 3 small pin when the battery is pressed in, because when I was little I broke the small metal stick when removing a battery and I added a foil to power it on. This isn't my original walkman sadly.... So, if anyone has open a Sony Walkman wm-10 before how did you do it? Even those who haven't, please I need your help too.
