Need help to identify a component
« on: August 03, 2024, 11:01:16 pm »
Aux / Lock switch pcb of an iPod classic 5gen. I would like to rebuild the pcb and add Bluetooth to it. For that I need to identify the original parts on the pcb. The chip in the picture has 6 pins, 5 of them are connected. F6 is written on it. Perhaps someone can tell me what kind of chip the picture shows. Thanks in advance.

Can you provide some context with a full photo of the PCB?

Sure. Here are some more pictures:
First picture shows the back side of the Aux connector with the unknown chip. The second pic shows the entire assembly (Aux connector and lock switch). The last picture shows the front side of the aux assembly with the buzzer.

It looks like it might be an insurance policy, providing protection.
Have you measured the resistance between the pins?

Yeah I measured between the pins but got nothing relevant. I found the chip several times on the mainboard. Here is a picture. Any ideas what DZP mean?

We should be looking for U5, not F6, I think.

The following observation does seem to support the idea that it is a protection component:

You may also notice an IC labeled DZP## near the dock. We don't yet know what its purpose is, but if you remove it, you still get sound to your dock.

Thanks for the help. I found this:
https://electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/626582/what-is-this-component-labelled-dzp

It stands for diode zener protection.

The OP in that thread refers to a TDF6 marking. If that is "TD + F6", then "F6" is what we should be looking for.
