Onkyo TX-NR708 with defective DSP chip D830K013BZKB3
« on: May 25, 2021, 02:41:57 pm »
Hi,

I have an Onkyo TX-NR708 with a defective DSP chip D830K013BZKB3.
However these chips are known of it's premature failure and are swapped out with a newer revision D830K013DZKB3.

Because you can't buy the chips from TI because you need to own a Dolby-Digital licence I was wondering if there is a possebility to find them elswhere ?

All information is welcome !
Regards, Geert

some said they replaced D830K013DZKB3 from aliexpress/ebay with succcess, someone said D830K013DZKB4 worked but without audio stream capability.
imho the price+effort didn't justify, a replacement updated board is a better solution or just try some pioneer competition product

Wouldn't the replacement DSP also need to be programmed? Or is the firmware for it stored somewhere else on the board?

You are probably right about justifying the price, the effort means nothing to me since it's a max 15min job swapping the chip.

I believe there are two different firmwares, one is on the DSP itself and the other on the board.
