Can't activate service menu LeCroy 9354AL x2
« on: November 04, 2023, 08:46:31 am »
Having no success accessing service/maintenance menu on both my 9354AL units. Followed Tam Hanna's advice () - restarted, set to Auto then Stop. Service manual says press buttons 3&4 simultaneously then press 5. But no joy despite repeated attempts. I've been able to access on both units a year or more ago, though it can be finicky.

One possibly relevant observation - all three menu buttons (3,4,& 5) give an audible click when pressed individually. When I press 3&4 before 5 to access service menu, both give an audible click. However, pressing 5 after 3&4 gives no click and to all appearances the unit is not detecting the button 5 press.

Does anyone know if the absence of an audible click on button 5 after pressing 3&4 is normal or abnormal behaviour? If abnormal, seems strange that both units (otherwise fully functional) show same behaviour and neither is opening service menu.  Is there some other trick or configuration needed to get this to work?

Stop acquisition, press return key to exit any menus.
Press and hold 3, press and hold 4, press and hold 5, release 3, release 4, release 5.

Not sure about the click, would have to try here.

Thanks - that fixed it.  Pressed 3, then 4, then 5, released 3 and menu came up straight away.

I also have a Lecroy 9310A that I used to be able to get into cal menu but can't anymore.  If you look around the internet, there is lots of conflicting advice about which buttons to push in which order.  At the time, ~5 years ago,  I was not able to get any of them to work.

In my case I think I caused the problem.  The keypad had become very inconsistent and sometimes I had to push a button repeatedly to get it to register.  The source of that problem turned out to be a real-time clock chip that would not shut-up but while troubleshooting I think i got too aggressive cleaning the keypad and/or flat flex.

The scope is working except for the cal menu.  IIRC the resistance on each press is in the hundreds of ohms.    My theory is that that is low enough for single keys to register but not for the triple required press for the cal menu.

It's on my list of things I should look into again.
