buzzing choke

Hi!
I have this line filter choke in a small curcuit for 230v. It sits in series with the 230v leads. The thing is that it is making a buzzing noise like a bee which is amplified even further when the pcb is in its casing.
So is there any ways to make a buzzing choke silent?
Is there any danger in leaving out a line filter choke. Can the curcuit do without it?

To reduce buzzing, chokes are usually varnished or potted. You can get small volumes of varnish on ebay. Or you could try potting it with epoxy.

Don't know the geometry of the choke, but it can also help to space the choke off the PCB a little so the noise isn't conducted directly into the PCB which can act like a speaker.

You can also leave it out, the circuit will just send more noise onto the line.

Much to the detriment of anyone in the vicinity trying to receive ham radio, shortwave, or AM broadcast. Don't do it!

Filter chokes are there for a reason and if the manufacturer included it, that's because it probably wouldn't pass EMC compliance without it.

Soak it in varnish, any company that makes transformers can do it for you. If choke doesn`t get hot, you can use standard varnish from a store, soak it twice and it will be fine.
