HP x360 salvage
« on: November 20, 2023, 03:53:28 am »
New to these forums, hello hello. I have an old HP x360 with an AMD Ryzen 5 2700u. This was an old laptop that was damaged at some point, but now I have a use for it. I have all the parts except for the screen & keyboard. The goal is to identify whether the laptop mainboard is usable.

1-This old laptop was wiped, it has no OS and nothing worth saving on it.
2-I know the screen was an EDP 30pin
3-the battery still seems to hold a charge, but an 8 pin blade system makes it hard to verify.

Onto the fun stuff |O. Booting it did nothing when plugged to a blue tip charger and HDMI'd into another monitor. I don't know if the drivers would automatically export the graphics out or if it needs an OS to do so, normally the video signal would be through the EDP30. Adding the battery didn't change the boot cycle. I haven't tried plugging in anything beyond the power adapter and the "power-on" switch, both of which are external to the board and connected via FFC ribbons. The lights on the charger and on the power switch are hopeful indicators, but I still need it to load onto a screen, so I can interface with it, and hopefully load a version of Linux. Things I haven't plugged in include the speakers, SD card reader, and cooling fan (which may act like a safety and prevent the booting).

Q1: Should the board send a signal via HDMI without the need for an OS?
Q2: If it does need a video signal from the EDP30 how can I get that into an HDMI port?

normally you should be able to access the bios  unless pw protected,  it should give an video on the screen  unless something is broken

no need for OS to intervene

damaged how,  physically ?  water ?  dropped ?    lcd hinges broken ?
