Beginner Dyson Battery Question SV03 SV05
« on: November 14, 2023, 06:08:59 pm »
Not even sure what model this is, so picture attached.
I saw a thread about PICkit3 and Dyson batteries, plus a video or two, So I just ordered a PICKit 3, pull out my stock of old batteries ( one has 32 red flash error)

On looking at the thread… BMS PCB looks different… damn!
Plus the two new(er) batteries have no SV number on them.

I suspect the two already dead stripped ones were SV03 or 05, but labels long gone.

I have not opened any of the spare batteries yet… I got all excited and started 3D printing some battery opening tools, rather than the usual heat gun, vice  and screwdriver method !

So, trying to get ahead of the game here….question, the PCB’s pictured… can they be EEPROM flashed the same as the other PCB in the thread… I will link to later.
That thread is 10 pages long, and am currently plodding through it.

But for now… any advice if possible..

Thank you.

OK, so here are the threads I am currently reviewing, plus the photos in a smaller size as I could not upload them in original format from the phone.

https://www.eevblog.com/forum/reviews/dyson-v6-v7-32-red-light-flashes-planned-obsolescence/msg3999823/#msg3999823

https://www.eevblog.com/forum/reviews/dyson-v7-trigger-cordless-vacuum-teardown-of-battery-pack/msg4753277/#msg4753277

I will link this post to the other two in hope of "catching" the attention of those that may know where to go in this .

The usual conundrum...where to post this question..begginners forum or tag on to the other posts.. So i decided to create new thread.

The 61462 PCB you show is compatible with my firmware. I'd guess the EEPROM fix also works if you want to try it first, but I'm not as familiar with that. Not sure about the other batteries without an SV number on them. I'm going to guess it is compatible since I don't think we have found a vacuum model like that which isn't compatible. The newer vacuum models have data connections to the battery but someone else already started firmware for those too.

Ah yes, that 61412 number and a Firmware thread ring bells.
Just a matter of waiting for Amazon/ eBay &  postal service to deliver… oh and i guess find a Windows computer… unless you know of Mac based application for PICKit ?  Have been using Visual Studio Code for uploading firmware to ATMega board on 3-D printer

I have a question regarding the bonded thermistor, but have placed that in its own thread, to avoid burying the answers within a different topic.

If you have info I’d be grateful if you answered on that thread

Why don't you create your own server software to manage this complex of Q&A on the same thing? People are getting tired, keeping things all in one thread is generally the best thing as people don't like responding to duplicate threads or finding that they wasted their time as you got the same answer elsewhere on the same forum from someone else, people like to help but there are lots of things to talk about without overlapping. It's the fastest way to becoming very unpopular.

Apologies
I thought having a different subject in a different thread was the way to go, rather than bring up (hijack) another topic with a different subject.  This is a very big forum with lots of stuff in it, not just Dyson stuff, but people doing Dyson stuff would be seeing this thread.   I purposely did not ask my question on this thread, merely asked if any one with knowledge of the thermistor could take a look at the question.  If I just posted it in one of the multiple groups, then people with Dyson experience might not see it.

I know on other forums, ‘hijacking’s threads with a different subject matter is frowned upon.

After several pages or after the answer is found all threads diverge. My metal rule is that after 10 pages off topic is the only way a thread continues with a few people that stuck around.

PICkit 3 does work on Mac with MPLAB X. Although the instructions for the battery firmware call for the standalone programmer app on Windows, this isn't the only way to upload the firmware. Instead, you can use MPLAB X, but it is more complicated. If you get stuck I'm sure you can find help in some PIC/PICkit forums. This isn't really a Mac-specific question, but an MPLAB X question.

Alternately, maybe try "PICkit-" http://kair.us/projects/pickitminus/
I have never used it. The Mac version is command line only.

Of course, if you can borrow or acquire a Windows PC, that might be easier.

Been up to attic and dug out an old Win XP machine from 2004   It works, and focus a Win 7 too..so one will surely work.

Otherwise will try a VM on the Mac

Cheers

I found the old outwears for the other two bare boards..one was an SV03 and the other labelled DC59..both the same physical packs and both with the 61412 board.

Got a PICKit3 yesterday so now to work out the pinout...
