APC UPS BR1500/RS1500 Schematic
« on: August 17, 2021, 09:55:03 pm »
Does any member have a schematic for a APC BR/RS 1500 UPS? Mine started beeping continuously with the LED sticking on the Amber light, after the initial power up. The batteries are good and it does not indicate a bad battery. It is fully charged at the moment. I tried adjusting the sensitivity as given in the manual but no change at all.

There seems to be very little info on these units and any info is much appreciated.

Thanks in Advance.

Thanks but I checked those already with no real usable info. The link to the so called schematic has nothing on the RS1500.

Yeah, a friend gave me a couple of those in the same make/model. I did not find any info.

Eventually, I repurposed them to make an isolated AC power transformer. Here's the thread link on my build.
https://www.eevblog.com/forum/projects/diy-isolation-transformer-project-back-to-back-method/msg3174352/#msg3174352

An isolated transformer is an essential piece of safety gear in an electronics lab. Not only to keep you from getting zapped, but also to keep your oscilloscope from turning into bacon.

Great idea! I am on the verge of buying a new UPS. Even though the batteries are good and are holding the charge well, the unit as a whole is useless if I cannot get a diagram to check the critical voltages at least. Especially when the unit is so old and parts may be stressed already.

I am firm believer of not sending stuff to the landfill, if I can help it. I also refuse to buy anything new just for the looks or "new" features if the "old" can serve my purposes.

I may save some of the "valuable" parts after doing something like you have done. Thanks for the idea t1d.

for any apc  big models  you're out of luck finding any schematics,  trashed an br1500 because of that  .... the batteries almost busted in it

That is the same as mine-BR/RS1500. It lasted more than 6 years and still has the original battery which still holds the charge! What did you use to replace it? There is an APC Sine wave UPS for some $200+

APC is the well known brand. I wonder if CyberPower is a good brand compared to APC. They seem to have the same specs but slightly lower prices for similar units.

Thanks for any input.

One of the most important donor parts was the case. (I still have the second one, of course.) I reused it to build the new isolation transformer and it was very convenient... Plenty of room to work in... Easily accommodated reconfiguration = mounting the second transformer and fan. You can read about my tricks in the thread.

But, if I were doing it again, I would use a different case... Maybe something that I could stack the transformers vertically in.

Why? The present case is really big. It is really long and bulky on my bench.

I have saved the thread as a pdf to refer to when I get time to work on this. Thanks again.

What model were you looking for? My RS1500 has "0253E" written on the PCB.
I eventually found the schematic on a Russian forum (edit: now that i know what to look for, i seem to find it everywhere).
If you (or anyone else for that matter) is looking for the schematics of this discontinued product, i've shared them here. Alternatively, i've found them at monitor.espec.ws as well.

Thanks, but I got rid of it a while ago. It was easier to get a new unit with a warranty and not worry anymore.

Thanks but I don't have it anymore. But if you like, attach it and post it as there might be other people who may want it.

I know this an old thead, but I'm attaching schematic for RS1500 / BR1500I UPS. I personally own it and I already repaired it once, so it should be the right schematic. I had to jump through some hoops to get it back then, APC actively tries to prevent them from getting public. Well, at least they used to, but I doubt they will care about 15+ years old model.

I may add my small drops of experience withAPC RS series. Most problems of thise UPSs go from small electrolytes, like in any other APC or not APC UPS. ( 22 uF 16 V etc. )
RS series uses SMD alyminium caps 22 uF, 10 uF and 4.7 uF. And first die 22 uF ones.

A friend brought me another BR1500I for repair today. I already replaced C40 and C41 few years ago, but this time another fault appeared: its fan was running constantly. The switching transistor Q35 (2N2222) was shot. It seems nobody else reported this problem yet online, so I thought it was worth mentioning here.

And here is another forum about fixing BR1500I and similar models:
