« on: October 08, 2021, 07:04:36 pm »
Hi, i have here a notebook HP Pavillion g4 of which there is a swollen capacitor, it is this 2K 470 ELA, can it be replaced by a different one, which? or not? Thanks.

I believe that is a 470µF capacitor.

You can replace it with another 470µF capacitor of the same or higher voltage rating.

Not sure about the ELA though. I am not familiar with that coding.

Could you perhaps upload a photo of it showing the markings?

I managed to find this:

https://electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/500183/aluminium-electrolytic-capacitor-information-top-marking-9h-100-ela

So I believe that the E indicates 25V and the LA is the manufacturer's series ID.

So you need a 470µF 25V Aluminium Electrolytic capacitor.

Maybe like this:
https://cpc.farnell.com/panasonic-electronic-components/eeefk1e471p/capacitor-case-g-470uf-25v/dp/CA07884

Although be sure to check the pin spacing and the diameter / height of the new capacitor to make sure it will fit in place.

Remember, if you cannot get a 25V one you can use a higher voltage rating such as 35V or 63V (assuming it in not physically too large). It is only the max voltage rating.

Just don't connect it backwards (not that I have ever done that of course  ;D)
