Why Tesla cars are the BEST EVs and Tesla is the best car company
« on: September 04, 2020, 11:29:42 am »
As much as I am not really a fan of Elon or Tesla.  After watching this video one has to give credit where cried it due.  Tesla is the car company of the future.  Tesla sure puts all of the other car companies. ICE and EV to shame. As drug crazy ELon can be at times, he sure is brilliant.

Watch the video before commenting.

The best thing Musk did for the car business was to shit-can the franchised-dealer system and sell direct. Car dealers are lower than pond scum.

I think this video is worth a watch for the casual tesla observer. Links many things together to expose what may be the master plan.

Where's the information?  The video is 40 minutes long of these guys babble back and forth with stupid videos inserted.  I find this video painful to watch.

Yes I agree. Videos are a shit way to communicate information. Lets start summarising them instead of just posting them shall we?

My take on it is the video goes through the implications of:
* Maxwell solid state electrolytes and how that leads to:
* A million mile battery which permits:
* Grid connected vehicles and how that enables:
* Virtual power plants which lead to:
* Increasing income for Tesla by 50% without them having to do anything much at all.

It makes some of the issues that have been raised here go away:
* High cost of new V2G chargers - paid for by the passive income
* High cost of Teslas - now you have a car, and half a dozen powerwalls for free
* Battery degradation of EV's - now they don't degrade.
* Depreciation of Teslas - much reduced if the battery has a big warranty
* Replacement of batteries of old Teslas - well its worth it now as your new battery enables V2G and you can earn money.

Like I said, it is worth a watch. All speculation of course.

I will disagree, there are videos on YouTube which are fantastic.  Dave's videos are very good.  And the ones Sandy Murano talking about Tesla are very good as well.  What makes them good is they are too the point, short, and don't have useless video clips inserted.  I have learned a lot from their videos.

Can anyone tell me why Tesla and the other EV car manufactures are NOT using nano-diamond self-charging batteries?
Dave has a wonderful video should all of the benefits of self-charging batteries.

Ok whatever. I'm not arguing about long videos with the guy who starts the thread by posting a long video link

I thought it contained interesting information, and it was worth the irritation of sitting through.

You did the exact same thing. I'm not going to watch your 37 minute long video.

No, Tesla does not have the holy grail of electric cars. Nor is it the best for the environment. Nor does it produce quality cars IMHO. It produces desirable cars, and its biggest product is dreams. Dreams that the car will be self driving, and the company will be just the best and biggest ever, so invest now.

It is a long con. Dont believe me? Look at the power stage of the inverter of a model 3 and compare it to a 2010 Prius inverter. One is a bunch of off the shelf transistors bolted on a huge heatsink.  The other is an electronics housing, carefully integrated cooling, with custom power stage transistor dies carefully laid out. I let you figure out which one is which.
Tesla's huge technical invention is a slightly larger 18650.

What do you think will happen, when other manufacturers will deem the battery technology good enough? I tell you what, it will be a bloody massacre.

Have you watched the short to the point videos where Sandy Murno discusses the "Tesla Lies", "Tesla's Biggest Flaw" and "Tesla's Battery Advantage"?  All are on YouTube.

Sandy might provide some additional information that might change your mind.

Yep. Many old school OEMs will simply disappear like Kodak did. Too little, too late.
Examples I see coming: Mazda. Honda. Fiat.
Perhaps Toyota also.

Why don't you just go out and buy one? It seems the logical conclusion of starting all these Tesla do it / are the best threads.

I'm really tempted to place an order for a CyberTruck.  Looks ugly.  But after listening to Sandy talk about how Tesla went about designing it, I am VERY tempted.  And I use my truck as a truck.  So I expect the beat the shit out of it.

It baffles me that Toyota has nearly no EV presence yet must be watching the growth of Tesla and VW in the electric vehicle field with some curiosity.

They do have the Lexus EV just recently announced but it only supports 50kW Chademo and has a 54kWh battery, yet it only get a 180 mile real world range.   :-DD

I am sorry when even Peugeot has a better EV SUV than you (200 mile range, 100kW charging via CCS, 50kWh battery) then you need to think twice.

The use of Chademo in 2020 is a bit odd, but other that that the Lexus EV looks like most other EVs appearing recently. Indifferent, but not horrible range, and a rather high price tag.

Comparing the Peugeot to the heavier Lexus and saying the Lexus is bad for achieving a comparable range from a comparable sized battery seems a little odd. I wonder what they are like in real use? Some EVs seem to get a lot closer to the rated range than others, especially when driving at speed on a motorway. Some really do badly at speed, which is rather unfortunate - its those long fast drives where the range is really important.

Which company has the most long term experience of putting high power electronics and motors in a vehicle? Its not Tesla. Its Toyota. It seems Toyota helped Tesla develop some of its early technology, when they still owned a chunk of Tesla (I think they have now sold off all their shares for some reason). Toyota appears to be investing in next generation batteries. I suspect they are getting all the pieces in place, while pushing and furthering their expertise in hybrid vehicles, and waiting for the right moment to really start moving away from ICE power. Remember, most Toyotas are not expensive cars. Everyone else has really struggled to make effective EVs to compete with budget priced ICE cars,.

They said, that either they make millions of hybrids or thousands of EVs. Making millions of EVs is better for the environment. They wanted to introduce the first solid state battery on the Olympics, with cars on the market in 2025. What do you think will happen, if you suddenly could buy a Corolla EV with 500KM range, for half the price than the model 3.
Toyota is not going to put a LiIon battery in their car. Because they sometimes become a fireball, and it doesnt fit the brand's image, they have the most reliable cars. They also have the technology for the engines, the LS600h has a 220hp electric motor casually added as second motor too the car. That is more added power to a hybrid, than the Leaf or the Kona.

I dont think Tesla will introduce a solid state battery this month. They dont have a secret gigafactory on the dark side of the moon, ready to make solid state batteries. If they introduce it, they practically loose all the sales until they switch to that battery. Nobody in their right mind would buy a LiIon anymore, if in 1-2 year you get twice the range or half the price.

Mazda teamed up with Toyota. The VW group already proved, that they can create EVs, which are just simply better than Teslas. But i think the only reason they made the ID3, because of the Dieselgate. And VW doesnt stand alone, they have companies, like Bosch and Continental supplying half their parts. The 3 company has over a million people. Compare this to the 50000 people at Tesla.

I wonder if Toyota will be the Kodak of car the car companies.  Kodak created the first digital camera, but they were in the paper business.  No one at Kodak wanted to embrace filmless/paperless photography as this employed 60,0000 people.  They fraught the technology they created thinking no one would ever want to look at digital photos.  Didn't take very long for a fruit company (that Kodak once partnered with) to make a phone, music player, camera/photo viewer that required no film or time for developing.  Only took about 10 years for a 100 year old company with 60,000 employees to be bankrupt.

We should be calling this the disruption era.  Where small startup companies have disrupted and bankrupted or nearly bankrupted some the the biggest companies in the world.  It's going to be interesting if Toyota will be the next Kodak in 5 years.

Only reason Tesla hasn't gone under is the US Government. Toyota is fine with or without government assistance so I'd say Tesla is significantly more likely to go under than Toyota.

Are you implying the United States Government never provided any assistance to Toyota, GM or Chrysler?  Ford claims to not have recently accepted government financial assistance but not sure if that's true or not.  I often wonder what the car industry would be like today if GM have gone bankrupt.  Would it have leveled the playing field for Byton, Faraday, Fisker, Inc., Lucid, Polestar, Rivian and SF Motors?

We are all speculating on how this experiment is going to play out....  There are as many plot changes as a good book or movie.  We just won't know for 10 or 20 years.  In the mean time get another bucket of popcorn and root for your favorite car company or technology weather it be ICE, EV or PHEV?  Can we all agree Fuel Cell and Hydrogen powered vehicles are about as likely to be in widespread use as flying cars.

I didn't say Toyota received no US Government assistance but they'd be fine if they hadn't. My evidence is they make a profit regardless.  I literally said nothing about Chrysler, GM, or Ford. If Tesla hadn't they wouldn't be around at all. I'm also not rooting for anyone(Tesla and Toyota only make ugly cars as far as I'm concerned). I also don't really care if cars go Gas, Electric, Hydrogen or anything else just so long as they serve the purpose I need them to. If anything I'd root for my previous employer, BMW, but I'm not because they don't pay me anymore. I do still get the discounts though so I am biased.

Tesla has spent most of its life tettering on the brink of collapse, but I think it has now reached critical mass. I wouldn't be surprised to see its share price tumble, though. Its current valuation seems to have lost touch with reality.

Just as when I was 12, I'm rooting for the flying cars.  Remember the Moler Flying Car?  I think he flew the first one around 1980.

So, battery day is over, no solid state battery. Small, incremental changes, pretty much on the curve that we were expecting.

Probably what you and I were expecting, but the build up in the media for this event has been truly deranged.
