USB Type-C Connector Wiring For USB 2.0 Application
« on: July 17, 2015, 08:39:11 pm »
I'd like to use a USB C connector for a USB 2.0 application.

I know that for USB 3.0/3.1 applications, you need to look at CC1 and CC2 to determine cable orientation and mux the four differential lanes (TX1, RX1, TX2, RX2) properly. However, D+ and D- are in the middle of the cable, and this diagram seems to indicate that the D+/D- pins are only present on the top of the cable:

To me, this looks like I can simply connect the top and bottom D+ contacts together on the PCB, and vice-versa for the top and bottom D- pins. If the cable is inserted in one orientation, the cable's D+/D- pins will connect to one set of the PCB connector's pins, and if the cable is inserted in the other orientation, it will connect to the other set of pins. Is this correct?

Do I have to do anything with the CC1 or CC2 pins to make it compliant with the spec?

Apologies if that has already been discussed, but I couldn't search for anything (given the minimum word requirement of the search functionality of this forum) when I tried searching for "USB C"

On your PCB A6 signal connects B6, and A5 to B5.
That's it :)

So did you find cables and connectors for reasonable price?

Digikey has just started carrying Type-C jacks (mfg Assmann).
Jacks and cables have been available from the usual chinese sources for a while.
