TVS for RS232 protection
« on: April 24, 2020, 09:04:49 am »
Hi,
For RS485 I'm using PSM712 for ESD protection, For a new design that has a mix of RS458 and RS232 I want to select a TVS for RS232 protection, I came across these different PDF's from littlefuse
https://m.littelfuse.com/~/media/electronics/application_notes/littelfuse_tvs_diode_overview_application_note.pdf.pdf
and bourns, https://www.bourns.com/docs/technical-documents/technical-library/chip-diodes/publications/bourns_tvs_diode_short_form.pdf

Both of them suggest different part numbers,Bourns would recommend SMBJ26CA and littelfuse recommend SMDJ15CA :'(

So which one should I choose? also do we have something more packed like two TVS in a single package, like PSM712?
what do you recommend for RS232 protection?

Hi men! well.. SMDJ series to littelfuse say "RS232 Interface Protection with High Surge Requirement" and support 3000W!...
Bourns use SMBJ series and this type of TVS support 600W!
The selection depend to your application designd and requeriments.. if you aren´t high specifications, use SMBJ (it´s more cheap)

I hope I have helped you, greetings from Argentina
