I could be way wrong, but I'm guessing it's not that easy and you'd end up with two cores running sub-optimally. They probably grind down the center post, so you should be able to use some silicon carbide paper and water to grind the legs, reducing the gap and getting to where you want to go. It's easy to measure the AsubL as you go.

'Couple other thoughts- buy cores with no gap and set the gap using very thin Mylar sheet. Here I can order cores gapped to any desired gap from the core distributors. You might be able to find a machine shop to gap cores. It's not too hard with a simple plated diamond tool on a grinder. I do pot cores on a lathe with a toolpost grinder if necessary, but the leg cores can be done on a surface grinder. I almost always use pot cores because it's easy to deal with the gap. I've also put narrow slots in toroids, but that's a pain!
