What would you do with a not working Keithley 2000?
« on: September 30, 2013, 11:10:52 am »
I have a not working Keithley 2000 with a pretty stable LM399 reference.

What would you do with it, I'd like to build some 10V reference with it, possibly by reusing some salvaged parts from the meter.

Any idea?

I don't know about you, but I'd try to fix it. ;D

How badly is it damaged?
<fellbuendel> it's arduino, you're not supposed to know anything about what you're doing
<fellbuendel> if you knew, you wouldn't be using it

I already tried to fix it but it always seem to develop new problems.

In meantime I managed to fix another K2000 and a K2001 I found on ebay for very few $, so I really don't need another meter (I cannot trust anymore).

Guess is better to use it for parts and build a good reference.

You can take it apart, and eventually send to me whatever I may need in a few days  ;D >:D

p.s.
I am waiting for my "new" K2000 to arrive from Italy (ebay.it).
I hope I will manage to fix it, it is completely dead...

Hope you do not get ebay id 331028916743.

The meter was sent to Keithley and come back as not repaired.

The guy told me also that he tried to repair by it self.

I asked if he knows what is ESD and high independence inputs, and response was YES and NO REPLY.

Based on the end price, this time I decided not to try it.

@EdoNork: not so much funny selling it ;-)

There's all sorts of good parts on a k2k: very high quality resistors, opamps, relays, analog switches... and then there's that custom resistor pack which will likely come in handy repairing other k2ks.

Lucky you finding a cheap 2001!

Have some fun with the vacuum fluorescent display:

People tell me I have too much time on my hands. I tell them, for all the things I want to do, I don't have enough!

My K2000 arrived today. It was completely dead, but new rectifier for digital section power supply returned it to life :)
I have some questions, but will ask in one of existing threads in TE section.

Have some fun with the vacuum fluorescent display:

that's a sure way to make it really irrepairable... why would you want to do that ? those VFD's are unobtainium.
If i had a dead keithley and a working one i would carefully store the VFD of the broken one so that, when the vfd on the working one finally is too dim, i have a spare to revive my other one.
And if i don't have another keithely i'd still save the VFD as there may be someone else that can use it and i can get 20$ for it (or more)

simply destroying good working parts is idiotic.
