Rocket science + excessive number of uCurrents
« on: April 22, 2014, 11:08:17 pm »
Thought I would share a picture of one of my companies experiments with FEEP thrusters that happen to use a large number of uCurrents as part of it DAQ system. The system measures the ion current from the thruster at multiple locations simultaneously avoiding the need to us a probe on an XY stage. The high voltages in the experiment often damages the uCurrents but they are easy to repair and have proven more cost effective than more traditional multichannel plates. One day we hope to scale up this experiment to over 1000 channels but I'll probably build custom hardware for that instead of buying the world supply of uCurrents ;D

Yeah, you can't use 1000 uCurrents.  They turn into milli-Currents.

That's officially way cooler than the stuff we are working on.... When I was in high school I dreamed about going to work for somebody investigating ION propulsion.. I am stuck in our family business making irrigation related timers. Good work.. No awesome factor....

maybe you could just buy loaded panels of uCurrents.

but then you couldn't easily replace them as you blew them up.
