RFID Reader for wide range distance

Hello all
I've been playing for while with the mifare 13.56 Mhz RFID Crad reader (like many electronics hobbyists) since the reader distance is limited to 30mm I can't achieve some requirements in one of my current projects so I came here to ask for any recommendation of some UHF readers that I can use to read tags at a distance of 1.5 meters.
I'm using AVRs to interface the mifare through SPI so anything with similar protocol will be highly appreciated
