2 cell lipo (6.8V-8.4V) to 14V Synchronous Boost converter
« on: September 17, 2024, 03:55:02 pm »
Hello

I tried to design a boost converter to go from 2 cell lipo to a bit above 3 cell lipo voltage.
I used the TPS61288, because it includes all switching components, and can deliver ca 4A on the output.
Datasheet: https://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/tps61288.pdf?ts=1726578413546&ref_url=https%253A%252F%252Fwww.mouser.de%252F

For the component selection I stuck to the datasheet, as much as possible.

I used multiple smaller capacitors on the output than recommended, simply because it's cheaper for me in manufacturing.
The same goes for splitting up Rc in Rc1 and Rc2.

The entire compensation network was simply copied from the reference design, because I don't know enough about control systems to design them myself.
according to the Ti forum, using the reference design values should be fine.

For the board layout I tried to stay close to the layout example.
Only the Vin pin I routed differently because the layout example didn't connect it to the supply voltage?

All in all, this is the fourth PCB I designed, so I would be grateful for all the feedback and advice I could get, before I get it manufactured.
