Recommendations on high voltage boost converters
« on: April 28, 2021, 02:26:01 am »
Im looking for a small ic for a 12v input boost converters to 60-90V dc output with no more than 1mA

Along with this im also looking for a higher power ic/solution for nixie tube powering so 170V nominal at at most 15mA. The input being more flexible but still within 45V or so.

I cant find any searching myself. For the 170V I want to avoid needing a high voltage output mains transformer if I can and for the 60-90V i have no choice but to run from 12V input

Easy: any boost controller/regulator e.g. UC3843, and an offline inverter transformer e.g. Pulse P5009NL wired in reverse.

Is the 60-90 for a separate thing, or what?  It's also feasible to do in a single (boost) stage, or even a charge pump (555 timer + multiplier).

Also look into tapped-inductor boost using commercial coupled inductors, the SRF0703 series for example. I've had success with this where the ratio is too high for a regular boost, and you don't need enough power to justify the cost and size of an off-the-shelf flyback transformer in reverse.

As usual, I recommend any boost converter driving a charge pump.
