ESP32 RF antenna connctor & filter network values
« on: October 11, 2022, 01:04:22 pm »
Hi,

I am designing custom PCB with ESP32-S3 onboard and I wish to include RF connector for external antenna, similar to how it is done on esp32-s3-wroom-1u.
https://hu.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Espressif-Systems/ESP32-S3-WROOM-1U-N8R2?qs=Li%252BoUPsLEnvv7kyEkzf6%252Bw%3D%3D

My problem is that I could not find information about the required PI filter thet is iplemented in the RF transmission line of the wroom module. What are the Capacitor and Inductor values for this RF network?

I checked the Espressif design guied but it was not very helpful in regards to RF.
https://www.espressif.com/sites/default/files/documentation/esp32-s3_hardware_design_guidelines_en.pdf

If you guys have any tips it would be very helpful.
Thank you!

I removed the shielding off of the wroom module, there is clearly and inductor and two capacitors present in the RF line, but  I have no means of measuring their value...

Values of the Pi filter are not shown because they are dependent of the PCB and (depending of the case) antenna, you have to calculate them, if you don't know how, you should be using the module instead.

Calculated the component values based on the 35+10j Ohm impedance of the LNA in of the ESP32 and the 50 ohm antenna connector but I wanted to compare the values with a reference design...

Any other ides?
