VFD Board
« on: July 31, 2012, 07:06:02 am »
I recently found a VFD mounted on a board sitting around. I managed to identify it as an NEC FIP display, and that it uses a National Semiconductor MA1003 as the driver. The board itself is marked as a National product. Thus far I've been unsuccessful in finding a datasheet on the device. It doesn't really help that the device is potted over as well. There are clearly the 6 connecters on one side of the board, one of which is unused. Beyond that I haven't been able to figure out anything else about the board.

Does anyone have a datasheet for this driver? If not I might as well go about removing the VFD from the board and trying to drive it manually.

That looks like the same module. I'm wondering what the various input voltages are for the park or signal lines are. At the least I need the ignition pin set active to enable the display.

I tested it, and it works! The trim pot on the back has been soldered into one position, I'll see if I can clean that up. In the mean time, I'll just go about putting it in a housing.
